3D Studio Max 4.26,
Rendered with V-Ray
Scene lighting - HDRImage
If you like 3D artwork that makes you ask "is that real or is it 3D?" then you're going to love T800 Head 01 by ~mmarti. The level of detail is nothing short of amazing, enhanced by the textures and lightning that give this 3d render superb qualities. A marvelous piece of 3D art. (
At first I tried to do the model as it looked in the movie, but later changed few things. For example, teeth look a bit better than the original (I understand movieprops' makers tried to do Arnie's slight gap between front teeth to make the skull more like him) and eye sockets are slightly different (tried to make them look a little meaner).
I don't know exactly, but at some point 3dsmax became more popular than Maya. It's strange though, because most special effects/movie etc. companies (like Pixar) use Maya, as far as I know. I guess 3dsmax is more user friendly. Not sure though, because I have barely tried Maya. On the other hand, professionals who use Maya claim that it's quite intuitive and easy to use as well.
Well, I didn't do anything special. Textures were made in Photoshop, with some custom brushes (metal scratches etc.). Rendering was done with VRay, lighting source - HDRI image, no additional lights. That's pretty much it.
